What experience do I need?

Coaches must be 16 years of age or older at the time of the workshop

Prior to booking all coaches must have completed as a minimum the England Hockey Online Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Hockey Course within the last 3 years. The following face-to-face workshops are also accepted.

By the end of the workshop coaches should be able to:

  • Develop practical ideas on HOW to create fun, exciting and effective learning environments for children and students.

  • Demonstrate and explain the basic rules of the game of hockey.

  • Deliver engaging games for their participants.

  • Demonstrate and explain various fundamental skills that will support the development of their participants.

  • Understand that the game is the teacher, the pitch is the classroom, the coach is the facilitator.

This workshop is designed for coaches that:

  • Deliver in a primary school setting.

  • Deliver as a HE / FE activator.

  • Coach in Youth / Community groups.

  • Are young leaders (16+).

  • Simply want to help out as a parent / helper and require the basic information

  • Are not expected to coach independently.

Coaches that attend this workshop will get:

  • Exposed to key Great Britain Hockey messages on HOW and WHAT to coach.

  • 6 hours of contact time with a national tutor specialising in this area.

  • A set of Coach and Inspire Game Cards to support you in your journey into coaching

Engaging Games for Children - Further Details.

By the end of the workshop coaches should be able to:

 

  • Describe and apply the ‘C’ system model of positive development in hockey 

  • Describe and apply the Golden Thread for the coaching of children

  • Develop practical ideas on HOW to deliver fun, exciting and dynamic games to facilitate effective learning environments for children 

  • Understand that the game is the teacher, the pitch is the classroom, the coach is the facilitator.

This workshop is designed for coaches that: 

 

  • Coach children in any environment (clubs, schools, etc.) 

  • Want for practical and up to date games to deliver to their players 

  • Need ideas on how to coach games rather than basic drills 

  • Want to share ideas and learn from other coaches

Coaches that attend this workshop will get:

 

  • Pre course information including electronic resource cards

  • Resource cards specific to games for children

  • 3 hours of practical examples
